The government’s agenda 111 district hospitals being undertaken by the Akufo-Addo administration is a bold initiative to address the huge healthcare infrastructure deficit, the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said.
“One of the things that we have to appreciate fundamentally is that agenda 111 is really a bold initiative by the government because we’re saying that every district should have a district hospital; that is the vision” he emphasized.
Dr Bawumia noted over 60 years after Ghana attained independence, over 90 districts in the country still do not have district hospitals to provide healthcare services to the populace.
“We are making up for a problem that has existed for over sixty years – so we’re beginning to deal with some of these problems in a comprehensive and a holistic fashion” he added.
According to Dr Bawumia, about 87 hospitals are at various stages of construction across the country to accelerate healthcare delivery.
He revealed eight of the projects are being constructed in the northern region and 27 of them doted across the five regions in the north.
He also encourage the contractors to continue and try to finish as soon as they can notwithstanding the teething challenges, asserting further the people anticipate the completion of these projects to meet the healthcare infrastructure.
