Confirmed: Bawumia Will Run for Presidency

The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will contest the impending Presidential Primaries of the New Patriotic Party slated later this year, this is according to his Aide, Akbar Yussif Rohullah Khomeni.

The NPP is expected to elect a successor of President Nana Akufo-Addo moving into the 2024 general elections.

Lawyer Akbar Yussif Rohullah Khomeni said the Vice President will be out not just to add to the numbers but to win the contest to lead the party to break the 8-years political governance cycle in the country.

“If God give him [Bawumia] long life and good health and when the time is due, he will run and he will not just run but run to win the elections.”

Speaking in an interview on Tamale based North Television monitored by THE CUSTODIAN Online, Mr. Khomeni rebuffed critics who suggest this is the time for the outgoing Minister for Trade and Industry, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten, who is touted as a longstanding candidate among other individuals vying to lead the governing party including Dr Bawumia.

Mr. Khomeni argued that the NPP tradition is not like queuing to buy waakye and you only buy when it is your turn in the queue.

“We have people in this party from 1992, in fact, from the Busia-Danquah memorial club up until today like [Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku] and we would’ve been looking out for those longstanding members and not any of the candidates showing interest today.”

He chided politics is not about longevity but rather hard work and loyalty which the New Patriotic Party is well known for and has over the years rewarded its hard working and loyal patriots.

“Don’t you always hear that Nana Akufo-Addo has said this against the NDC or Dr Bawumia has said that and the NDC has also rebuttal against Akufo-Addo or against Dr Bawumia; don’t we hear that – all NPP members knows that those intellectual banters is not for their [Nana/Bawumia] personal interest but for the image of the party.

“All that Dr Bawumia did in the past and still continues to do now is to maintain the NPP in power; we cannot discount that people fought for the party to be where we’re today. Our politics today adversarial even though it is not war but it is a serious contest of ideas, the NPP says we can do this, the NDC says they can do that; and when there is a debate between us and the NDC and someone would have to come forward and you remain in your room and when it is time for leadership then you say you’re first in the queue” he emphasized.
