The Ghana Health Service has set out to achieve a universal coverage of Covid-19 vaccination in the North East Region.
The Ghana Health Service has thus far vaccinated 84.1 percent of the eligible population in the region.
A total of 328,691 people have been fully vaccinated as at January 20, 2023. Those who have also taken at least one dose stands at 327,235 and individuals who have also gone for their booster jabs are 101,405.
The North East Regional Director of Ghana Health Service, Dr Abdulai Abukari at a stakeholder meeting in Nalerigu on Monday, 23th January, 2023, further gave a district performance breakdown.
The Yunyoo-Nasuan district according to GHS data is the best performing district achieving 102.2 percent coverage, followed by West Mamprusi with 99.5 percent and Bunkpurugu-Nankpanduri district with 79.1 percent.
The others are: East Mamprusi with 71.0 percent, Mamprugu-Moagduri 67.6 percent and the Chereponi district managing 60.2 percent vaccination coverage in the region.
Dr Abdulai noted the region despite their challenges are the highest performing region in the country as far as the Covid-19 vaccination is concerned.
“A position we have held for several months now and which we hope to maintain with the support of all of us herein gathered.”
The Regional Director said the directorate has rolled out the 6th National Covid-19 Vaccination Campaign under the theme: “Protect yourself, protect your family, get vaccinated against Covid-19”.
He said the goal is to reach and vaccinate all eligible members of the population who are 15 years and above with potent Covid-19 vaccines.
Dr Abdulai Abukari said the country is not out of the woods yet and implored the public ensure they get vaccinated to remain safe.
“I think that we are all aware that the national response to the Covid-19 has seen significant improvement over the past three years but we also know that globally, we are not yet out of the.”
“From what we know about diseases of epidemic potential, all that is necessary for an escalation of infections is the accumulation of a sizeable population of non-immune individuals” he emphasized.
