The Member of Parliament (MP) for Gushegu constituency in the Northern Region, Mr. Hassan Tampuli has cut the sod for the construction of a Surgical and Maternity Block at the Gushegu Municipal Hospital.
The hospital currently has 120 beds and on completion, the new block will add 40 more beds to the facility.
On behalf of the Chiefs and people of Gushegu, Mr. Tampuli who is also the Deputy Minister for Transport, expressed his gratitude to the Kofi Abban Foundation for funding the project as a benevolent gesture.
“I have heard about civil society support, corporate social responsibility support in the various constituencies across the country and in the northern region but I have never seen anything close to what we’re going to witness here in Gushegu today.
“On the 4th February, 2022, the medical superintendent wrote to me and requested very urgently that we support to get Accident and Emergency Centre for the hospital. It was whilst I was considering this request that I made contacts with my brother and very good friend, Dr Kofi Abban and the proposal that we had from the hospital was for a very tinny structure. They wanted just to be able to deal with the facility, then our benefactor said this is too small, I want to do something bigger for you – I want to build a maternity and surgical block for you and I want to make a storey building so that we can have more rooms in the facility”, the Gushegu MP eulogised Kofi Abban.
He commended the management and staff of the Gushegu municipal hospital for their hard work and dedication to duty, stressing sometimes under very severe conditions.
“It takes only dedication, commitment and hard work and uncommon dedication for you to be able to do what you’re doing for the Chiefs and people of Gushegu.”
The facility upon completion would enable the Gushegu hospital to become a major referral centre for most district in the eastern part of the northern region.
Nurses’ quarters
Mr. Tampuli later joined Bo Naa Tia Salifu to commission a nurses’ quarters at Bogu, a community in the constituency.
“By this singular gesture, the CHPS compound can now boast of a resident midwife who attends to the pregnant women 24/7.
“Other health professionals are also accommodated in the quarters. I recently commissioned rural electrification project in Bogu and that goes to make life a whole lot easier for the health professionals.
“I later handed over a site for the construction of a public toilet for Garichefong to the contractors and also provided them with resources to commence construction at once”, Mr. Tampuli pointed out.
