The governing New Patriotic Party has called out the opposition National Democratic Congress for demanding the arrest and prosecution of the Minister for Food and Agriculture. The Abetifi Member of Parliament during a health walk organized by the NPP at Kwahu in the Eastern Region is purported to have said the NPP will never handover power to the NDC in the 2024 general elections
This, the opposition NDC described as treasonable and called on the Ghana Police Service to arrest the lawmaker and prosecute him for making such brazen statement. In their view, the comments is an attempt to subvert the country’s democratic order.
General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong, in response said the statement of the NDC lacks contextual substance for the consumption of the discerning Ghanaians who in his view are not oblivious to the modus operandi of the main opposition party.
He said the NDC is engaged in deliberate diabolic and mischievous slant to an otherwise innocuous comments of the Member of Parliament in furtherance of their selfish political interest.
According to him, the NDC’s statement is not only ill-founded, hypocritical, illogical and baseless but lacks substance.
Mr. Kodua, nonetheless, assured that the NPP remains a peace-loving political organization and will not do anything to jeopardize the peace and security of the country before, during and after the 2024 polls.
He emphasized that, “We hold the enviable title as the bastion of democracy in Ghana and on the African continent, and this, we intend to guard jealously. The 2024 general elections shall be free, fair, and the most transparent elections in the Fourth Republic, and by the grace of God, the NPP would emerge victors to continue our transformation agenda.”
However, the NPP Chief Scribe also pointed out the hypocrisy of the NDC as far as making political warmongering comments are concerned.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Hon Bryan Acheampong, was responding to the NDC’s perpetual flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, who had on many occasions described the 2024 general elections as one of “do or die” for the NDC. It is, in fact, a no secret that the NDC has always resorted to violence and intimidation against their opponents during the conduct of general elections, and this was summed up by their 2024 presumptive presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama.
“He has stated emphatically that: “NDC has revolutionary root, and that when it comes to unleashing violence, nobody can beat us [NDC] in unleashing violence” he stressed.
Justin Kodua added other leading members of the NDC, including the National Chairman of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, have made similar threatening and malicious comments in recent years.
“Indeed, following his election as National Chairman, Asiedu Nketiah stated in his victory speech that, the NDC would fight the 2024 general elections to win a second independence for Ghana, and that, they are prepared to sacrifice everything including their lives for an NDC victory” he affirmed.
