The Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama, has said when given the node in the 2024 general elections, he will appoint people based on merit in his next government.
Delivering in his victory acceptance speech at the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale on Monday (May 15, 2023), Mr. Mahama also assured to operate an open-door policy and open-mindedness in his next administration.
“I assure you of my open-mindedness, my open-door policy, and my commitment to run a government based on merit and competence.”
The former President seized the opportunity to call for peace and unity among the rank and file of the party moving into the December 2024 general elections.
“We must remain one family. Let me emphasize and urge all of us, as members of the NDC, to re-dedicate ourselves, commit our energies and resources to work hard to win the 2024 elections” he emphasized.
Mr. Mahama further called on the NDC Members of Parliament who lost their bids in the May 13 primaries to represent the party and their constituents to remain committed in carrying out their parliamentary duties in the remaining one and half years.
“Above all, we need you in the remaining one and half years of your Parliamentary mandate to carry out your duties with dedication and commitment to safeguarding the interest of the Ghanaian people. I intend to meet with you as early as possible” he stressed.
He added, “The party needs you, and we will continue to rely on you as we seek to win election 2024 and change the destiny of the suffering people of Ghana.”
Meanwhile, the NDC flagbearer has also affirmed his commitment to support the party’s parliamentary candidates and constituencies with the necessary logistics to secure a majority in the next Parliament.
“Let me reaffirm my unshaken commitment to offer the needed support to our Parliamentary Candidates and all Constituencies to make certain that we secure a healthy majority in the next parliament” Mr. Mahama stated.
