The sixteen Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Northern Region have been urged to use the scarce resources at their disposal to the benefit of the people.
Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu, at the 2023 maiden Regional Coordinating Council meeting in Tamale made the clarion call when he addressed stakeholders including the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the region on Thursday, May 18, 2023.
Mr. Shani said public officers should endeavor to use their limited resources to the benefit of the poor and underprivileged in society.
“As public officials and stakeholders, we should endeavour to commit to the judicious use of both public and donor funds for their intended purposes to the benefit of our people and, to the collective development of the region.”
He emphasized as people entrusted with public offices and resources, the MMDAs should always endeavor to create very conducive atmosphere for the citizens to go about their socio-economic activities devoid of security threats.
Highlighting on the government interventions in the health sector, the Minister noted nine district hospital projects are at various levels of completion under the agenda 111 flagship initiative.
The Minister reiterated the commitment of the Akufo-Addo administration to improve access to quality healthcare delivery in the region, arguing this is evident in the region through the numerous interventions that have been implemented to strengthen the health sector and make health care delivery more accessible to citizens.
Road infrastructure
The Regional Minister disclosed the construction of the Tamale-Yendi road and, the Yendi-Zabzugu-Tatale road is ongoing, adding this will boost the economic viability of the various districts and the region in general through improved road networks.
Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu disclosed a World Bank monitoring team has arrived in the northern region to supervise the progress of work on the two highways.
