The Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has honoured New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart in the region, Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (COKA) with prestigious excellence award.
The special award dubbed ‘Excellence Media Award’ was in recognition of COKA’s contribution to media development in the Ashanti region and beyond.
At a ceremony at the Rotary Park Dome in Kumasi recently, the Association stated that “Odeneho Kwaku Appiah’s nomination for the excellence award was carefully considered among others in an excellent slate of nominees. COKA’s contribution to media development are appreciated and are important to the continued growth of the media”.
The citation accompanying the award described COKA as a trusted friend and partner to the media in the region.
“COKA has been one of the pillars in the development of the media within the region and beyond. Truly, he can be called a friend and partner to trust among journalists and media houses since 1998.
“You have imparted in the media good ethics and professionalism. You have extraordinarily manage many characters and dispel the fears and worries in the media activism and whenever the media needs you, you are always there to support. Your lifeline support to the media fraternity is really admirable. You indeed walk your talk,” the citation said.
The citation further described COKA who is the immediate past chairman for Afigya Kwabre South constituency, as a warrior in the media development who believes in team work.
“Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah is the kind of person who always believe that unity is strength and when there is team work and collaboration, wonderful things are achieved,” the Ashanti Region GJA added.
COKA’s acknowledgement
In accepting and acknowledging the citation given, COKA stressed that “I was honoured when you expressed your appreciation of me. Your approval makes all my effort feel worthwhile. I am happy that you see me as an asset to the media fraternity. Thank you for this recognition. It motivates me to continue to do more.”
GJA president’s address
In an address, Mr Albert Kwabena Dwomfour, the National President of the GJA, said, journalists in Ghana will continue to hold the government accountable until the living conditions of every Ghanaian are improved.
“As we have done in the past, we will continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including the government, to strengthen governance while ensuring accountability,” he added.
The event was attended by Nana Boakye Yaw Ababio, chief of Nkwantakese, Samuel Pyne, Mayor of Kumasi, Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, the Minister of Education and MP for Bosomtwe, Yaw Osei Adutwum and the Chairman of the National Media Commission, Mr. Yaw Boadu Ayeboafo.
