Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta has disclosed that the implementation of the One District One Factory (1D1F) initiative has led to the creation of 160,000 direct and indirect jobs.
He says this is a huge step to mitigate the impact of the severe economic challenges in the country and also to preserve growth.
“As of June, 2023, 126 factories were operational nationwide.”
“Over 160,000 direct and indirect jobs have been created, especially for the youth who have been mobilised to establish agro-processing factories in 58 districts,” he said.
In his address during the 2023 Mid-Year Budget Review in Parliament on Monday, July 31, he noted that aside from the 1D1F, other measures have also been put in place all aimed at creating more employment especially for the youth and largely eradicate poverty.
“…Government outlined a series of measures to mitigate the impact of the severe economic challenges and that include the implementation of flagship programmes, such as One District One Factory, Planting for Food and Jobs (PfJ) – Phase II.”
“…Strategic Anchor Industries, Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP), GhanaCARES, YouStart, Agenda 111, among others,” the Finance Minister stated.
The Minister also noted that the economy is on a path of recovery, and will even show greater results when the measures implemented start yielding fruits.
