2023 Homowo festival was celebrated quietly and peacefully in parts of Ga South namely Dankyira, Dpomeabra and Ngleshie Amanfro.
At Domeabra, the Asafoatse Nii Kojo Kwao III led his elders and people at their family house to offer traditional prayers to their ancestors.
He also sprinkled kpoikpoi just in the family house without flouting the directives by court and also the fact that this year the queen mother of the whole Ga state, the Late Naa Dede Omadru’s death.
The family head Nii Oko Lamptey in an interview with the media called for peace, unity and love among the people for the new year.
On his part, Nii Ashangbor Ayittey, the Abusuapanin of Domeabra, Nii Quaye family noted that it is only proper that they offer full respect to the late queen mother by not celebrating this year’s Homowo festival in pump and pageantry.
He called on government to rehabilitate Domeabra roads, which are in deplorable state to facilitate easy movement of goods and services.
According to the elders of the town, although Weija water dam is near Domeabra, they do not have pipe borne water so they pleaded with the government and GWCL to provide them with regular potable water.
In a related development, the dzasetse of Domeabra Nii kofi Lantei noted that they need security, police station, water, market and also discipline in the town.
He said he is also planning to get his people bore holes in the towns because the challenge of water is a serious issue to them.
At Denkyira, the dzasetse of the town, Nii Ayikai Atram, and Abusua Commey who spoke live on Obonu radio, and other media platforms also noted that the quiet and peaceful manner in which this year’s Homowo festival was celebrated was in honour of their paramount queen mother is refreshing.
He continued that it is his wish that truth will be the watchword of the selection and enstoolment of the next queen for the Ga State.
The chiefs and elders also prayed for unity in the Ga state in general.
They narrated how the Homowo came about by explaining that in the past, hunger hit the Gas and it resulted in deaths but later rain fell heavily and they had a bumper harvest then they hooted at hunger which means Homowo.
According to them, since the bumper harvest, this great festival was instituted by their ancestors and is still been celebrated.
They said it is their wish that the late Queen mother will be offered a befitting funeral at the right time to befit her status.
Abusua Commey also said it is his prayer that the numerous deaths in the Ga state and lorry accident will reduce.
He also prayed for bumper fish and food harvest for farmers so that the high cost of food that is in the market these days will reduce.
Present at the festival at Danchira, were many dignitaries including; the current chief of the town, popularly known as Nii Akwei Thompson, a former municipal chief executive of the then Ga south assembly graced the occasion successfully.
