Leader and founder of the “Movement for Change” also described as ‘butterfly movement,’ Mr. Alan Kyerematen, has extended an open invitation to New Patriotic Party (NPP) member of Parliament for Assin Central constituency in the Central Region and a presidential aspirant, Kennedy Agyapong.
He urged the Assin Central lawmaker to abandon his ambition in the governing NPP’s presidential slot and join the butterfly movement.
Speaking in an interview on Silver TV, Mr Kyerematen said Kennedy Agyapong is his brother and that his campaign message is similar to that of Mr Agyapong.
Accordingly, he said a partnership with Kennedy Agyapong, will be the ticket to beat in the December 2024 general election.
Mr Kyerematen resigned from the NPP on Monday 25 September 2023 after performing abysmally with 95 votes (about 10%) in a Special Electoral College election that was to choose five out of 10 presidential aspirants for the main primaries on November 4, 2023.
At a news conference to announce the said resignation, he disclosed the formation of his butterfly movement and his intention to contest the 2024 presidential election as an independent candidate, using the butterfly as his symbol.
He has since been moving from one media house to another, attacking the governing NPP and its members as well as policies of President Akufo-Addo’s government.
