The Vice President and Presidential Candidate hopeful of the governing New Patriotic Party, NPP, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia earlier Friday morning, October 27, visited the tomb of the late former Vice President of the Republic, Alhaji Aliu Mahama at his private residence in Tamale to pay his respect and offer prayers in line with the Islamic religion.
Dr Bawumia has been touring the Northern Region since Monday in the lead up to the upcoming presidential primaries slated on November 4. He has since interacted with delegates of the NPP in 16 out of the 18 constituencies in the region.
He expected to climaxed his tour of the region with a meeting with electorates of the Tamale South and Tamale Central constituencies today Friday at the University for Development Studies Dungu campus.
Prior to that, Dr Bawumia seized the opportunity of his presence in the Tamale metropolis to pay a courtesy visit to the final resting home of his predecessor and political mentor at his Kalpohin residence where he was laid to rest back in November 2012.
The spouse of the former Vice President, Hajia Ramatu Mahama, who past to eternity in 2022 was also laid to rest beside the grave of her husband.
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was in the company of Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama, son of the late Aliu Mahama and members of the family, the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu, the NPP Northern Chairman, and some leading members of the party.
Meanwhile, Dr Bawumia held very close ties with the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama after his selection as the running mate of then candidate Nana Akufo-Addo back in 2008.
They campaigned vigorously together in the 2008 general elections and prior to the 2012 polls before his saddened demise on November 16, barely a month to the December 7, 2012, general elections.
