The Ghana Police Service has expressed condolences to the family of a young lady who lost her life during an anti-robbery operation conducted in Pigfarm, a suburb of Accra.
The operation, aimed at apprehending a criminal gang involved in a series of robberies, took a tragic turn resulting in the unintended death of an innocent bystander.
In a statement released and signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Grace Ansah-Akrofi, the Director of Public Affairs, it was revealed that the operation had been ongoing for some time with the primary objective of arresting members of a notorious criminal gang responsible for several robberies in the area.
According to the statement issued on Saturday, the Police successfully apprehended two members of the criminal gang, and efforts were underway to apprehend the remaining suspects. Unfortunately, during the morning operation, a stray bullet struck a lady who happened to be in the vicinity.
Efforts were immediately made to rush the injured lady to a nearby hospital. Regrettably, she was pronounced dead on arrival. The police assured the public that a thorough investigation would be conducted to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The statement conveyed the condolences of the Police Service to the grieving family, emphasizing that the leadership of the Police had visited the bereaved family to offer their support during these difficult times. The Police pledged ongoing assistance to the family as they cope with the tragic loss.
“Once again, we wish to express our sincerest and deepest condolences to the bereaved family,” the statement concluded, acknowledging the sorrowful turn of events during what was intended to be a proactive measure to curb criminal activities in the area.”
