Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, Minister for Finance

The New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Karaga constituency in the Northern region, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam popularly known as Anta has outlined his infrastructure achievements since he was elected to represent his constituents in Parliament in 2020.

The legislator said his record is solid and unprecedented in the constituency and segregated some notable and landmark projects and programmes undertaken across various in his first three years in office.

Dr Amin Adam who has served under the Akufo-Addo government as Deputy Energy Minister before his appointment as the Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance mentioned the construction of the Karaga Community Centre, Karaga Astro Turf Football Stadium, Police stations in Pishigu and Yemo Karaga and a Community Market at Tamalgu as some landmark projects started and completed all within three years.

The Minister made these remarks during a press soiree he organized for Journalists in the northern region last Sunday, December 31, 2023, at his private home in Tamale.

He added there has also been an extension of telephone network in the predominantly rural constituency to about eight villages. The beneficiary communities include, Bagurugu, Napoligu, Tamalgu, Jenpkihi, Maane, Kopkelga, Bagli, and Namburugu.

On electricity, the lawmaker states that only three communities are yet to be connected to the national grid to achieve universal electricity coverage in the district, emphasizing a total of 89 towns and villages have connected to the grid and all communities installed with streetlights to enhance security at night.  

Education

The education sector in the Karaga district has also witnessed some massive infrastructure growth and logistics to empower both teachers and students in the area. Some of the interventions of the first term Member of Parliament include the construction of a new Senior High School at Pishigu, a new Technical Institute at Nyong, ⁠3-Unit Classroom blocks completed at Sadugu, Takalgu and Kambonsiya and an ongoing 3-Unit Classroom Blocks at Janpkihi, and Natigu.

In addition, the NPP lawmaker is also introduced “Anta Education Fund” which has since supported fees for 500 beneficiaries in tertiary education institutions, One-Teacher-One Laptop programme which distributed 140 laptops and the Independence Day Awards to Best Teachers and Students.

Health

The health sector he said has also witnessed a major infrastructure boost with the construction of a maternity block at the Karaga district hospital, distributed 36 motor-king ambulances to communities in addition to CHPS compounds at Kpason and Namang among other ongoing projects.

The Karaga legislator has also provided an ambulance to complement the government’s One Constituency, One ambulance initiative, an ongoing Agenda 111 hospital project, maternity block at Bagli health center, Nurses quarters at Tamalgu.

The Member of Parliament has also facilitated the completion of several feeder road projects at Zogu, Nyingali, Kupali, Kpasablo, Monkula, Zinyeli, Binduli, Sakulo, kpaglo, Tulinga, Nyenbgolo. Several others are presently being done in Nyong, Bagurugu, Tamalgu, Nambrugu, Sugri-Yilang, among other areas.

Poverty reduction

Dr Mohammed Amin Adam disclosed he has also provided 230 sewing machines for girls in apprentice, Microsoft facility for 600 women, one woman, one acre free farming initiative for 25, 000 women, 20 tricycles distributed to farmers to facilitate transport of their farm produce, shea butter Processing facilities at Zankali and Sung with the third project being done at Bagurugu, all in his effort to reduce poverty among his constituents.
