The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia have picked a formidable campaign team of high-ranking individuals for the 2024 general election.

Members of the team have been described as highly respected political bigwigs in Ghana’s politics as they have had enviable track record of winning power for the NPP over the years.

For example, Mr. Dan Botwe who is picked as the national campaign chairman and strategist is a proven winner and a highly respected politician in the country.

He led NPP as General Secretary to win the 2000 and 2004 general elections after the Danquah-Dombo-Busia tradition had been in political wilderness for about three decades.

The immediate former Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development has also won the Okere constituency seat for four consecutive terms from 2008 to date.

He has two political giants Fredrick Oware and Nana Akomea as his deputies.

Another political heavyweight in the team is the venerable Peter Mac Manu who is chosen to be in charge of electoral affairs.

He also led NPP as national campaign manager for two consecutive elections, winning in 2016 and 2020 general elections.

Following his spectacular performance at the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) under the auspices of the Electoral Commission over the years, Mr. Mac Manu has been described by NPP faithful and impartial political pundits as a colossus in electoral matters.

His dexterity in electoral matters together with other key players in the team, political watchers believe, can propel the governing NPP to achieve its objective of setting a record of winning the general election for three consecutive four-year terms in 2024.

Again, Mr. Frederick Opare-Ansah, the national campaign manager is considered to be an extremely intelligent politician and a smooth operator who has immeasurable strategies that are never known to his political opponents.

He won the Suhum constituency parliamentary elections for four consecutive terms, a feat that has never been recorded by any politician in that area.

Mr. Opare-Ansah, an Electrical/Electronic Engineer, a former Minority Chief Whip and former Deputy Minister for Communications, is also skilled in Information Technology (IT) needed for the upcoming crucial presidential and parliamentary elections.

One of his deputies in charge of parliamentary campaign, Mr. O. B. Amoah is also described in the political arena as a highly meticulous politician, who has an eye for fine details, especially in electoral matters.

Mr. O. B. Amoah, the current Minister of state at the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development as well as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem South, will be representing the people of Aburi and Nsawam for a consecutive combined period of 16 years.

Like Peter Mac Manu, the Akuapem South MP has represented NPP on IPAC for decades and he is also well-versed all in the nuances in elections.

Prominent figures

The NPP campaign team also consists of prominent figures within the governing party including former President John Agyekum Kufuor and current President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

They are to steer the campaign for the forthcoming elections.

Under the guidance of former President John Kufuor, President Akufo-Addo, former National Chairman Freddie Blay, and former Campaign Manager, Peter Mac Manu, the NPP aims to strategise effectively and mobilise support across the country.

Also included in the team are all members of the National Council of Elders, Elizabeth Ohene, Rev. Joyce Aryee and Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare.

Together, they will oversee the overall direction of the campaign, coordinating various activities and initiatives.
