The United Front for Bawumia, a youth group affiliated to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the northern region has reprimanded the General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, for planting the seed of animosity and discord among northerners ahead of this year’s general elections.
The group held the recent divisive comments made by the NDC chief scribe is an attempt to disrupt the existing harmony amongst the people and sow the seed disunity and destabilize the peace in the area.
“In the sacred bond of our Northern fraternity, we must reflect on our sacred duty: to safeguard the honor and dignity of our beloved region. With unwavering dedication, we have pledged to nurture the seeds of harmony and prosperity within our midst.”
Addressing journalists in Tamale on Saturday (March 2, 2024), after a health walk jointly organized by the United Front for Bawumia and Bawumia Ladies, spokesperson of the groups, Alhaji Baba Alhassan observed there is a rising tempest of discord threatening to disrupt the harmony they have tirelessly worked to maintain.
“We speak now of the regrettable actions of the General Secretary of the NDC, Fiifi Kwetey, whose words have cut deep into the fabric of our unity. With reckless abandon, he has unleashed a barrage of insults and vitriol upon the character of His Excellency, the unblemished Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia” he stated.
The former Propaganda Secretary of the NDC during the Building Ghana tour of the party’s 2024 flagbearer in the Northern Region attacked the personality of the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, calling him an absolute disgrace and humiliation to northerners, a liar and a coward.
Therefore, Mr. Fiifi Kwetey urged the people to do everything possible to ensure the NPP 2024 flagbearer never rise to become President of Ghana as in his view it will be a disgrace to all northerners.
But, the NPP Youth in their response said, “Let it be known that the wounds inflicted upon the honor of our Northern brethren will not be easily forgotten nor forgiven.”
Baba Alhassan also admonished the leadership of the NDC especially former President Mahama to condemn the divisive comments of the former Ketu South lawmaker.
“We call upon the leadership of the NDC, and particularly His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, to heed our plea for justice and reconciliation.”
“In the annals of our history, let it be recorded that in our hour of need, we stood united against the forces of discord and division. Let our resolve be a beacon of hope for future generations, a testament to the enduring strength of our Northern spirit” he emphasised.
