The Member of Parliament for Gushegu Constituency in the northern region who is also the Deputy Transport Minister, Hon. Alhassan Sulemana Tampuli has given prizes to hardworking and deserving teachers in the municipality during the celebration of Ghana’s 67th Independence Day parade last Wednesday.
Similarly, the lawmaker also extended the gesture to hardworking and brilliant students who excelled in their respective fields.
The former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) instituted the awards scheme since 2021 to recognize the efforts public servants in the area which is expected to motivate others to emulate such good examples to diligently serve the community.
The Best Teacher awards were categorised as follows: First, Second and Third Best Teachers for Kindergarten, Primary, Junior High School, and Senior High School levels.
The First Best Teachers in all the categories received HP Laptop Computers each, Second Best Teachers received two (2) packets of roofing zinc and a set of Multi TV decoder, whilst Third Best Teachers received two (2) packets of roofing zinc.
On the other hand, the Best Student awards were Categorised into Best Female and Male BECE students and Best Female and Male WASSCE students.
Each of them received a Laptop Computer to enable their studies.
There was a best promising soccer student for this year who went home with a bicycle.
Mr Alhassan Fuseini, a teacher at the Gushegu Model Girls Junior High School was adjudged the Overall Best Teacher in the municipality for 2024. He took home a 42′ Plasma TV and an HP Laptop Computer in recognition of his outstanding performance and service to the area and the country as a whole.
The awards scheme is estimated to cost an amount of Forty four thousand, six hundred cedis (GhS44,600.00).
The Gushegu MP has underscored the significance of the initiative in improving teaching and learning in the area emphasising this will boost both teachers and students to continue working assiduously so the municipality will be recognized highly among its peers.
The legislator also highlighted the educational scholarship packages for students pursuing tertiary education in various professional programs all as his personal effort to equip the youth with the required contemporary skills to transform the area and the country at large.
He therefore urged all stakeholders to emulate what the forebearers of the state did to make Ghana an enviable country in Africa.
The 67th Independence anniversary celebration was held under the theme, ‘Our Democracy, Our Pride’.
The Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua, hosted this year’s national parade in line with the annual rotation which started in 2019 in Tamale.
