Insist On Decent Messages And Be Alert– Dwumfour Tells Media

President of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA), Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, has urged the media to uphold the highest ethical standards in the run-up to the December polls.

According to him, the months leading up to elections are always very crucial, and any miscommunication can influence electoral results.

Speaking at the 30th anniversary of Radio Universe on April 26, he advised the media to desist from any conduct that would tamper with the peace and tranquillity of the nation.

“As the December 7, elections approaches, I know many politicians will try and leverage their relationship with some radio stations to make divisive and dangerous comments and try and weaponise the media against its opponent.

“I urge all the media to be alert and insist on only decent messages on their platforms,” he said.

Mr Dwumfour explained that elections play a huge role in the longevity of democracies; therefore, the media must ensure that they rise above any challenges.

“It is said that elections often challenge democratic institutions like ours but resilient democratic institutions will rise to the challenge. I hope that the media will rise above the challenges that characterise elections,” he added.
