The 2024 Savelugu Parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz, has cut-sod for commencement of work for the construction and reshaping of about 120kilometers of feeder roads. The intention is to open up the constituency ahead of this year’s raining season.
The NPP Member of Parliament hopeful at a brief groundbreaking ceremony on the Disiga to Saakpuli stretch on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, said the project will cover about 14 communities across the constituency.
The beneficiary communities include: Disiga – Saakpuli – Dipkuuni, Saana – Nambagla, Kadia – Saana, Diare – Safam, Diare – Adaayili, Gbanga – Yoggu, and Dinga – Adaayili.
Hajia Fatahiya in a media interview highlighted the significance of the selected roads to boosting socioeconomic activities in the constituency.
She maintained this would also alleviate the suffering of farmers who hitherto struggled to access their farm areas due to the deplorable nature of the roads.
“I went to the Ministry of Roads and Highways to lobby for these reshaping works of about 120kilometers to help my people. Having visited these communities, I observed that their major priority is roads especially our mothers and fathers who go to their farms during the crop season but it is always difficult for them when it begins to rain and the roads get blocked and some cutoff completely.”
She added, “So I appealed to the Roads Minister and he gave approval for the construction and reshaping of these roads. I want to state that we’re starting with these communities but there are other communities that will also benefit subsequently”.
The Savelugu Municipal Chief Executive, Hajia Ayishetu Seidu, in her remarks stated that the intervention of the NPP parliamentary candidate heartwarming not only for the beneficiary communities but the assembly as well.
The MCE highlighted the predicament of the people anytime there is a downpour stressing the people are unable to travel to Savelugu because of the deplorable state of the road.
The Chief of Saakpuli, Naa Mohammed Abukari and the Regent of Disiga, Iddrisu Iddi, jointly commended the NPP parliamentary candidate for the road construction and dredging the Saakpuli dam to harvest rainwater.
Meanwhile, the traditional leaders have also seized the opportunity to make a passionate appeal to the NPP PC to ensure that the communities are connected to the national electricity grid to improve their socioeconomic livelihood.
The NPP Member of Parliament hopeful together with the constituency chairman and other executives interacted with residents of the communities and encouraged them to turnout massively for the ongoing voter registration exercise to cast their ballots in the upcoming general elections.
