The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbi, has summoned Parliament to sit on Friday, May 17, 2024. The directive is pursuant to Article 112(3) of the 1992 Constitution and Order 53(1) and (2) of Parliament’s Standing Orders.
The Speaker in a press release said: “I, Rt Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, do hereby summon Parliament to sit on Friday, 17th May, 2024, at a ten O’clock in the forenoon, at Parliament House, Accra.”
Meanwhile, the recall follows a petition from the Majority leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin requesting the sitting to consider some outstanding government business.
A letter directed to the Speaker by the Majority leader, made reference to Article 112(3) and Order 53 of the Standing Orders of Parliament, which authorizes 15 per cent of the House members to request Parliament’s recall.
