The 2026 MTN Savannah Fest gala matches commenced on Friday, September 18, at the Northern School of Business Senior High School park in Tamale with two fixtures taking place.
One of last year’s participating team, Tolon FC opened the tournament with Kakpagyili FC which is one of new teams joining the competition this year.
The match ended after ninety minutes (90mins) with the new entrance going away with the three maximum points having scored the only goal of the match.
The second fixture involved two new team, Sabonjida and Sanzirigu in the expanded competition of 16 communities.
Sabonjida FC displayed a sterling performance in both halves of the game and majestically walked away with three points after scoring three unanswered goals.
In a post match interview, the Sales Manager of MTN Ghana for the Northern zone, Richard Asamani, expressed his satisfaction with the great display of talent by the teams, adding there was a great team cohesion in both matches.

“This is what we want to see and this is what we want to give a platform for people to exhibit the talents that they and to be able to reach their full potential.
“If you look at the time today, it only shows this is a glimpse of what is expected to come by as the tournament progresses in the coming days” he stated.
The tournament is expected to end on Saturday, October 3.
