Thirty one candidates have been given clearance to contest the various elected executive positions of the New Patriotic Party in the northern region. The northern region annual delegates’ conference and election would be held this forthcoming Friday, May 27, 2022, in Tamale.

Chairman of the Elections Committee, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, who is the Member of Parliament for Karaga and doubles as the Deputy Minister for Energy last Thursday (May 19, 2022) told journalists in Tamale all candidates were duly vetted and qualified to contest the various positions.

He added all aspirants who picked forms and filed at the close of nomination on Tuesday May 17, 2022, were duly scrutinize and given the opportunity to contest.

“As of close of vetting on 18/05/22 all 31 individuals were successfully vetted and duly cleared for contest after having met the eligibility criteria as specified in the party’s constitution and election regulations.”

“The Northern Regional Executive Elections Committee (NREEC) mandated to steer the affairs of the elections in the Northern Region” he added.

The New Patriotic Party is expected to hold Regional Conferences and elect Regional Executives across all 16 regions in the country from May 27 to 29, 2022.

The Election Committee Chairman seized the media interaction to urge the candidates to continue to engage in decent and civil campaign as they appeal to delegates for votes.  

“The Committee takes this opportunity to convey warm felicitations and gratitude to all Aspirants for their cooperation thus far. The Committee continues to urge all Aspirants to engage in decent and civil campaign as they appeal to delegates for votes. Aspirants are also informed that no campaign is allowed on the day of voting and on the election’s grounds.

“In the event of any breach of the above directives, the Committee will not delay in taking appropriate actions against Aspirant(s) who will be found culpable. It is important to also note that the Unity of the party is most paramount and must be upheld by all Aspirants” he emphasized.

Meanwhile, unlike the Regional Organizer and Treasurer positions which the incumbents are being contested by one aspirants each, all other positions have more than one candidates competing including the Chairmanship slot.

The incumbent Chairman, Adam Mohammed Baantima Samba has been contested by a stalwart of the party, Alhaji Inusah Amadu (Dagomba Boy) and one Ibrahim Mahama.

Three persons are chasing the incumbent first Chairman for the seat and three candidates battling for the vacant second Vice Chairman position.

The Regional Secretary, Sibdow Alhassan Yakubu, has been contested by three experienced party members who have held various positions in the NPP. Four new entrants would also wrestle for the vacant assistant secretary position after the acting Assistant Secretary had beaten retreat.

The Youth Organizer and Women Organizer are also standing competition with two aspirants each for the showdown on Friday.  

The immediate past Tamale Central Nasara Coordinator and one young vibrant NPP activist would also fight it out with the incumbent regional Nasara executive for the position.

For the peaceful and smooth operations of the conference, the elections committee has appointed a six member sub-committee headed by Hon. Mathew Nyindam, former MP for Kpandai to steer the security affairs of the conference.

The other members are: the Dean of MMDCEs in the region, the Mayor of Tamale, Sule Salifu, a representative of the Regional Minister, the MCE for Savelugu, Hajia Ayishetu Seidu and Lawyer Hanifa.
