Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo has announced her intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries in the constituency, reversing her earlier decision to pursue opportunities beyond the area.
In a statement addressed to party members, constituents and the Ghanaian public, the former legislator said her decision followed considerable reflection, consultations and engagements with party leadership and executives.
She said she was motivated by her enduring commitment to the people of Dome-Kwabenya and her conviction that she still had more to contribute to the constituency’s development.
“After considerable reflection, extensive consultation and broad based engagement with party leadership and executives and guided by my own conviction and unwavering loyalty to the Principles and Values of our political tradition, I formally announce my intention to once again present myself for consideration as the New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency when the party announces the timetable and guidelines for the parliamentary primaries,” she stated.
Adwoa Safo explained that although she had previously indicated plans to pursue opportunities outside the constituency, further reflection had strengthened her desire to return to Parliament to represent the interests of residents.
She described Dome-Kwabenya as one of Ghana’s fastest-growing constituencies, with significant opportunities as well as major developmental challenges.
Reflecting on her 12 years of parliamentary service, she said she had worked with residents, party members, community leaders, religious leaders and other stakeholders to address local challenges and deliver development projects.
The former MP also highlighted the NPP’s electoral performance in the constituency during the 2012, 2016 and 2020 general elections, attributing the party’s gains to the collective efforts and unity of its members and supporters.
According to her, the party’s votes increased from 63,373 in 2012 to 65,488 in 2016 and 75,041 in 2020.
She stressed that the achievements were not hers alone but reflected the sacrifices and dedication of party members, supporters and constituents who shared a common vision for the area.
Adwoa Safo called for unity within the NPP, emphasising that the party’s strength depended on shared values and collective commitment to its objectives.
She further pledged to champion opportunities for young people, support families and ensure that the concerns of ordinary residents received adequate attention.
The former legislator invited party members, stakeholders and constituents to engage with her openly and respectfully on the future of Dome-Kwabenya and the leadership needed to advance its development.
“Dome-Kwabenya is home. It has always been home. My commitment to its people remains unwavering, and my resolve to serve remains steadfast,” she said.
Her declaration sets the stage for a potential contest for the NPP parliamentary candidacy in Dome-Kwabenya, pending the party’s announcement of the timetable and guidelines for its primaries.
