Agro Kings Limited, a Ghanaian owned agricultural organization has trained women at Nakpayili in the Nanumba South District of the Northern Region as part of its empowerment interventions.
The beneficiaries received a six-month intensive training in weaving and given the requisite start-up kits after the training to support their work.
This initiative of the organization addresses the UN sustainable development goals 1 and 8, which seeks to end poverty in all its forms everywhere and promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all respectively by 2030.
In his address, the Chief Executive Officer of Agro Kings LTD, Nana Owusu Achau Passion, expressed excitement about the impact of the initiative on the lives of the women.
He said Agro Kings is committed to expanding the programme, with plans to train about 100 more women in 2027.
Nana Owusu Achau Passion reiterated the company’s commitment to continuous engagement with the beneficiaries to help improve their livelihoods.
He also encouraged them to pass on the skills acquired to other people in their communities so that the benefits of the programme would extend to future generations.
He further disclosed that the organization will explore opportunities to promote the products produced by the beneficiaries on the international market.
The Northern Regional Coordinator of the Agro Kings Happy Program, who also doubles as the District Supervisor of the programme, Mr. Issah Muniru, explained that the initiative was introduced to equip young people with practical skills during the dry season.
According to him, rather than allowing the youth to remain idle during the off-farming season, AGROKINGS has provided them with practical weaving skills that can make them self-reliant and economically productive.
For his part, the District Chief Executive for Nanumba South, Mr. Musah Abdul-Rashid, expressed gratitude to AGROKINGS for supporting young people in the area to acquire skills in agriculture and other income-generating activities.
He commended the company for its broader support to farmers in the district, noting that during the 2025 production season, AGROKINGS supported 6,949 farmers with farm inputs and training.
Out of the 6,949 beneficiaries, 5,893 were women and 1,056 were men, a figure which, according to the DCE, demonstrates the project’s strong focus on empowering women and improving their economic opportunities.
Hon. Musah Abdul-Rashid said initiatives such as the weaving training and agricultural support were contributing to the development of sustainable livelihoods and creating opportunities for young people, particularly women, in the Nanumba South District.
