President Akufo-Addo (m) with GNAT delegation at the Jubilee House

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commended teachers for their immense contributions towards the successful implementation of government’s free Senior High School (SHS) flagship programme.

“It’s obvious to you, from the work of my government that you are one of the important partners of the Akufo-Addo government and presidency that has invested a huge sums of money in education in the new initiative of Free Senior High School and several other initiatives throughout out the educational systems and all these initiatives can’t get anywhere on the ground without your active corporation,” he stressed.

President Akufo-Addo gave the commendation when the executive of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), paid a courtesy call on him at the Jubilee House in Accra yesterday.

The GNAT delegation congratulated the President for his re-election at the 2020 polls. 

Welcoming the delegation, President Akufo-Addo reiterated that the bedrock of any nation is good education, ” without which the country cannot progress”.

He thanked GNAT for their support in the implementation of the policy, whilst commending the nation’s teachers for their contribution to the human resource development of the country.

President Akufo-Addo also lauded GNAT for acquiring the Sweden-Ghana Medical Centre and pledged government’s support for a tax waiver, which he promised to initiate the necessary measures for it to come into fruition.

President of GNAT Mrs Philippa Larson had disclosed to the President that the association has fully bought the Sweden-Ghana Medical Centre for the treatment of cancer.

The newly acquired property is situated at Ashaley Botwe.

According to the GNAT President, the association is also looking at putting up a four-storey structure for patient accommodation, staff bungalow, buy a pep scam machine and a host of other equipment.

In this regard, she pleaded with the President for tax waivers when the equipment arrive in the country.

Mrs Larson again seized the opportunity to invite President Akufo-Addo to grace GNAT’s 90-year anniversary.

The event, which was launched in March this year, will be climaxed from January 3-7, 2022.

Mrs Larson also informed President Akufo-Addo that the association is planning to set up an Institute for Research and Industrial Relations Studies at Abankro in Ejusu in the Ashanti Region.

Praying for good health for the President, she again requested for the completion of the road leading to the GNAT village at Abankro.
