President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is expected to inaugurate the First Court of Appeal Complex and permanent residential facilities for Court of Appeal judges, in Kumasi today.

Government, through the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF), is undertaking, the construction of over 100 Courts with accompanying accommodation for judges across the country, to help address the problem of inadequate court infrastructure.

President Akufo-Addo who cut the sod for work to begin in Kumasi, in April 2021 said the absence of an Appeal Court to provide for the Northern Sector has greatly affected appellate proceedings resulting in a considerable backlog of cases requiring the attention of the Court of Appeal.

“The establishment of a permanent, modern Court of Appeal complex in Kumasi will help improve the justice delivery system for the northern sector of the country.

With the completion of this project, appeals from Upper West, Upper East, Savannah, North East, Northern, Bono, Bono East, Ahafo, Western North, and Ashanti Regions will be conveniently heard within a much shorter period.

The project was initially estimated at GH¢74 million but was completed at GH¢99 Million due to increase in the scope of work, several variations as well a rise in material cost during the 18 months.

President Akufo-Addo will be joined by the

Ashantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who gave 7 acres of land for the project, and the Chief Justice Kwasi Anin Yeboah and Administrator of DACF Naa Torshie Addo Lartey to perform the inauguration ceremony.

President Akufo-Addo will also inspect some ongoing projects in the Region.

These projects cover a wide spectrum of government’s initiatives meant to improve the living conditions of the people.

According to President’s itinerary issued by the Regional Coordinating Council, the projects included the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Maternal and Children’s Block, Kejetia/Central Market Phase Two, Obuasi Trauma and Accident Hospital, and Boankra Inland Port Project.

The rest are the Anwiankwanta-Obuasi and Santasi-Apire Road Projects, Oforikrom, Nsuta and Trede Agenda 111 Projects, as well as a sod-cutting ceremony for work to begin on the Suame Interchange.

While in the Region, President Akufo-Addo will also inaugurate some completed projects such as the Toase Magistrate’s Court, the ECG KATH 33/11kv Primary sub-station, and Nsuta Maize Processing Factory under the ‘One District, One Factory’ programme.

He will interact with traditional authorities, including the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as well as the leadership and activists of the New Patriotic Party.
