Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has underscored the importance of unity within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections.
He made the call when the National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC) paid a courtesy visit to him at his office to formally invite him to the party’s 2026 National Delegates Conference.
The visit formed part of the committee’s engagements with key stakeholders ahead of the conference and the election of new national officers.
According to a Facebook post by NOEC Chairperson Frederick Opare-Ansah, the former President expressed confidence in the NPP’s prospects for the 2028 elections.
However, he stressed the need for renewed commitment, unity and a strong organisational foundation to support the party’s rebuilding and renewal efforts.
Nana Akufo-Addo said unity would be critical to the NPP’s ability to reorganise and strengthen its structures, particularly at the grassroots level.
He emphasised the importance of energising the party’s grassroots base and ensuring that members remained committed to the collective objectives of the party.
The former President’s remarks come as the NPP prepares for its national delegates conference, which is expected to play a significant role in shaping the party’s organisational direction ahead of the next general election.
He also commended the NOEC for the work it had undertaken towards the successful organisation of the National Delegates Conference and the national officers election process.
Nana Akufo-Addo expressed his support for the committee’s efforts and assured its members of his presence at the conference.
The assurance was welcomed by the NOEC, which expressed appreciation to the former President for receiving the delegation and offering counsel and support.
The committee said his guidance would be valuable as the party prepares for the conference and looks ahead to the 2028 elections.
The engagement forms part of broader preparations within the NPP to strengthen its internal structures and mobilise members ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The party is expected to use the conference to advance discussions on its organisational renewal, leadership and grassroots mobilisation as it seeks to rebuild its base and prepare for future electoral contests.
