Leader of the Anbariya Sunni community in the Northern Region, Sheikh Saeed Abubakar Zakaria has laid to rest in Tamale in line with Islamic customs and tradition.
The mortal was airlifted from the national capital, Accra, where he was receiving medical treatment to Tamale Tuesday morning and was received a cross section of Muslim leaders in the region at the airport.
It was conveyed to the Anbariya school campus where thousands of Muslims and other mourners from all walks of life congregated to observe the Janazah prayers.
Various Muslim sects in the Northern Region led by the Regional Chief Imam, Sheikh Abdul Salam Ahmed converged to pay their last respect and perform the necessary burial rites.
The late Sheikh Saeed was described as a great leader, an Islamic scholar par excellent, and a faithful servant of Allah.
Various political leaders have paid tributes to honor the memory of the Islamic leader.
One of them is former Vice President of Ghana and leader of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
In Facebook post, Dr Bawumia said that the deceased was a towering figure in Islamic scholarship in Ghana, adding that he (Sheikh Saeed Abubakari) devoted his life to teaching, preaching, and providing moral guidance to the Anbariya community.
According to Dr Bawumia, the deceased was an erudite scholar in the Islamic sciences, who championed the pursuit of knowledge and, led the transformation of the Anbariya Institute into a center of excellence.
The Minister for Education who double as the Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu on his part said the spiritual leader was most illustrious leader of Islam in recent times.
Meanwhile, elders of the family and the Anbariya Islamic Institute announced immediately after the burial ceremony that there wouldn’t be any three days funeral as they practice.
According to them, this was the last wish of the deceased before his demise.
