Vincent Ekow Assafuah has through his lawyers demanded that political commentator Hopeson Adorye retract a Facebook post and issue an unqualified apology after allegedly falsely identifying him as the originator of the Ghana Today podcast.
In a letter dated 9th August 2026, solicitors from Kulendi@Law, acting for Assafuah, wrote to Adorye concerning a Facebook publication he made on or about 8th August 2026. In that post, Adorye reproduced content originally published by Ghana Today and introduced it with the statement: “This is Hon Vincent Assafuah, the originator of Ghana Today podcast. I will surely respond in equal measure.”
According to the lawyers, the statement directly identified Assafuah as the “originator” of Ghana Today and attributed the publication and its contents to him.
They argued that this created the false impression that Assafuah owns, controls, operates, or is otherwise responsible for the platform and the material it published.
Assafuah has instructed his lawyers to state “unequivocally” that he is neither the owner nor the originator of the Ghana Today podcast and had “no authorship, control, responsibility or involvement whatsoever” in the publication Adorye shared.
The lawyers contend that the attribution has no factual basis and is capable of exposing their client to public ridicule, criticism, hostility, and reputational harm.
They further noted that Adorye’s accompanying remark that he would “respond in equal measure” reinforced the impression that Assafuah was responsible for the original post.
The letter demands that within 48 hours of receipt, Adorye must:
- Pull down and retract the offending false attributions and publications; and
- Publish an unqualified apology to Assafuah on the same Facebook platform.
Should Adorye fail to comply, the lawyers state that Assafuah will pursue all appropriate legal remedies, including claims for damages and other reliefs permitted by law. The letter expressly reserves all of Assafuah’s rights and remedies.
