Mr Ayiku Kabutey, Assemblyman of Naa Merely electoral area in Ashaiman

The assemblyman of Naa Merley Electoral area in Ashaiman, Hon. Ayiku Kabutey, has expressed chagrin at the recent opening of the Ashaiman main market.

According to him, the decision by the Municipal Assembly to open the market for trading is wrong and in defiance to government directives about huge gatherings and social distancing.

Speaking in an interview with thecustodianghonline.com, Ayiku Kabutey said, “The opening of the main market has caused the rise of Ashaiman’s COVID-19 cases to 45 with 5 recoveries.”

“I am highly disappointed with the Municipal Assembly for the opening of the main market” he said.
Ashaiman has been classified as a major farming area in the region of Accra populated with about 29,000 to 38,000 people due to its businesses.

Before the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Ashaiman had already been classified among the most dangerous communities in the suburb of the Greater Accra Region due to criminal activities.

People, however, seem to love the place and the new developments springing up, which is giving Ashaiman a major facelift.
