Chairman Adam Mohammed Baantima Samba, the incumbent New Patriotic Party Northern Regional Chairman seeking reelection has touted the originally northern region which includes the North East and Savannah regions is now the stronghold of the NPP.

He stated the governing party in the 2020 elections won 16 parliamentary seats out the total 31 constituencies, one seat more than the 15 seats won by their opponents the National Democratic Congress.

“Based on our performance in the 2020 elections, you will agree that the northern region is now the stronghold of the NPP. I was elected in 2018 by 31 constituencies and not the current 18 constituencies. My target was to make the northern region the stronghold of the NPP and I have achieved that – if you put the three regions [North East, Savannah and Northern] together, NPP forms the majority; by God’s grace, I have achieved the target I set out for myself”.

Chairman Baantima Samba made these claims when he successfully submitted his nomination forms seeking reelection as the NPP Northern Regional Chairman on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at the party headquarters in Tamale.

He however thanked the rank and file of the party for the support and cooperation under the four year mandate he served the party.

Mr. Samba said there is no contest but the delegates on the elections day would make resounding popular acclamation because he has diligently served them and delivered creditably well.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Northern Region Elections Committee, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, at the close of nomination admonished all aspirants to conduct their campaigns having in mind that it is an internal party contest and not step each other’s toes.

He also entreated the aspirants to urge their supporters to conduct themselves in a civilized and orderly manner for the peace and unity of the party.

“The campaigns so far has been civil, accommodating and no insults and we want to urge you to continue with that kind of campaign because at the end of the process, we need come together as a party – as winners and losers to work together to break the 8” he emphasized.
