The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has released GH¢2.6 billion to Licensed Buying Companies (LBCs) to facilitate payments to cocoa farmers across the country’s cocoa-producing regions.
In a statement issued on Thursday, July 2, 2026, COCOBOD said a substantial portion of the funds—about GH¢1.4 billion—has been allocated to settle outstanding debts owed by LBCs to farmers who previously supplied cocoa on credit.
The latest disbursement pushes COCOBOD’s total payments to LBCs during the 2025/26 crop season to a record GH¢34.52 billion, underscoring the board’s commitment to ensuring farmers receive prompt payment for their produce.
COCOBOD said it has put in place strict monitoring measures to ensure the funds are disbursed to farmers without unnecessary delays. The board also assured the public that every farmer who sold cocoa through the approved purchasing system would receive their full payment.
Farmers with outstanding balances have been advised to contact the respective Licensed Buying Companies through which they sold their cocoa to resolve any payment issues.
The board expressed appreciation to cocoa farmers for their patience, resilience and understanding during what it described as a challenging period for the sector.
According to COCOBOD, the release of the funds reflects the government’s continued commitment to protecting the welfare of cocoa farmers and sustaining Ghana’s cocoa industry.
