Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, widely known as COKA, has been elected as the new Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after defeating his main contender, Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu, in the party’s regional elections held on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
COKA secured a commanding 658 votes, comfortably beating Dr Kokofu, a former Bantama Member of Parliament and former Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), who obtained 269 votes.
The result represents a significant victory for COKA and gives him a strong mandate to take charge of the NPP’s activities and structures in the Ashanti Region.
The Ashanti Region is widely regarded as a critical electoral base for the NPP, making the regional chairmanship a strategically important position within the party. COKA is now expected to focus on strengthening the party’s grassroots structures, promoting unity and improving mobilisation ahead of future elections.
His victory also comes after he expressed considerable confidence in his chances during the campaign. COKA had predicted that he would secure at least 90 percent of the votes, citing what he described as strong support from delegates across the region.
Although Dr Kokofu entered the contest with significant political and administrative experience, his 269 votes were not enough to prevent COKA from securing a decisive win.
With the election now concluded, attention is expected to turn to COKA’s plans for the Ashanti Region and how he intends to consolidate the NPP’s support base while bringing the party’s regional structures together.
