Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) responsible for Corporate Affairs, Dr. Bossman Asare, has officially resigned from his position, effective July 31, 2026.
The announcement was made on Monday, June 15, 2026, by Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu during the Government Accountability Series. He also confirmed that the EC’s Deputy Chairperson in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, has retired from service.
According to Kwakye Ofosu, Dr. Asare stated in his resignation letter that he is stepping down in order to return to academia and resume his teaching and research duties at the University of Ghana. He also expressed gratitude to the President and the people of Ghana for the opportunity to serve at the Electoral Commission.
Kwakye Ofosu further disclosed that the process to fill the vacancies created by both departures has already begun. He noted that a nominee has been submitted to the Council of State for consideration as part of the replacement procedure.
He explained that once the Council of State completes its review and provides its recommendations, an official announcement will be made regarding the replacement for Tettey. A separate process will then follow to appoint a successor for Dr. Bossman Asare.
The Electoral Commission is expected to release additional information on the leadership transition in the coming days as arrangements are finalised.
