Work has commenced for the construction of a new Senior High School at Diare in the Savelugu Municipality of the northern region under government’s one million dollar per constituency initiative.

The project is supervised by the Northern Development Authority (NDA) under the Akufo-Addo administration’s flagship Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP).

The Chief Executive Officer of NDA, Dr Alhassan Sulemana Anamzooya disclosed this to the Paramount Chief of Savelugu, Yoo Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani that a 12-unit classroom block is currently under construction for the school.

According to the NDA Boss, the school project is among eight other physical infrastructure development projects the government is executing in collaboration with the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Mr Abdul Samed Gunu.

He also indicated that there are 704 projects springing up across the 18 constituencies in the northern region.

Dr Anamzooya revealed that one-storey building at the Savelugu market, a CHPS compound and Nurses quarters at Tindang, mechanized boreholes in three communities, KVIP toilet facility at Nayilifong residential at Savelugu are at various stages of completion.

Additionally, he said the NDA has supplied furniture to some basic schools in the municipality and also upgrading the Savelugu Lorry Park under IPEP.

Northern Regional Minister Salifu Sa-eed speaking at Yoo Naa’s Palace

Savelugu Water situation

The Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Sa-eed for his part told the Yoo Naa that President Nana Akufo-Addo had planned to cut sod for the Savelugu water expansion project before the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak in Ghana, stating this when done will be the largest water sector investment in northern Ghana.

The minister’s comment followed Yoo Naa’s complaint about the water and sanitation situation in the area.

However, Mr. Salifu Sa-eed assured the Chief that the project when done will supply potable water to the Savelugu municipality and its peri-urban communities and other parts of the region to end the perennial water scarcity.

Meanwhile, the Yoo Naa has thanked the NDA and government for the IPEP programme in his jurisdiction.

He has however called for closer collaboration between the traditional authorities and the organization to promote development in the area.

Yoo Naa explained that the collaboration will help both parties to identify critical development needs of the people.

The Chief also noted that teaching and learning has become ineffective at the Savelugu Experimental basic school as a result of congestion in the school.

As a result, he provided 4-acre land for expansion of the facility and therefore appealed to the Northern Development Authority to invest in the expansion project.
