Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations Minister Samuel Nartey George has urged Ghana to disband the Black Stars and dissolve the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following the team’s 4-2 loss to The Gambia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Ghana suffered a dramatic defeat at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday after surrendering a 2-0 lead against The Gambia in their Group C encounter.
Carlos Queiroz’s team failed to hold on after the break, conceding four goals as The Gambia completed a comeback, leaving Ghana without a point from its first two qualifying matches.
Ebrima Colley put the result beyond doubt in the 88th minute, scoring his second goal to complete The Gambia’s 4-2 victory and move them to six points in Group C.
The defeat further complicates Ghana’s bid to qualify for the 2027 AFCON, after the Black Stars also missed out on the 2025 edition held in Morocco.
Mr George, who is also the Ningo-Prampram Member of Parliament, made his position known in response to questions on X, calling for a major reset of Ghana’s football administration.
“As for the Black Stars, my position before is my position today. Disband the team. Sack the FA. Let FIFA ban us for two years. Take the time to properly rebuild the team. Truth hurts, but the patchwork is worse. Cheers,” he wrote.
The Black Stars are scheduled to return to action in October when they face Somalia in a double-header as they continue their bid to qualify for the 2027 AFCON.
