The newly sworn-in board of the Economic Organized Crime Office (EOCO) has been directed by the office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice to operate in accordance with the office’s Act, ACT 804, and ensure the proper recovery of state funds.
At the board’s inauguration, Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dominic Ayine, urged members to leverage intelligence and technology to ensure the recovery of all misappropriated state funds.
“You are the stewards of the institution. The nation expects you to lead EOCO with independence, courage and fairness. Your role is not serve any political, economic or personal interest but to serve the people of Ghana.”
“I urge you to focus on four critical areas, of the work of EOCO. The first and most important is to strengthen EOCO’s capacity, meaning to invest in technology, in training and intelligence-led investigations so that EOCO can keep pace with sophisticated criminal enterprises among others,” he added.
Chairman of the board, Daniel Yao Domelovo indicated that he’s going to work to ensure that all public funds are recovered in what he terms as OPRAL; Operation Prevent and Recover All Loots.
“In fact to be very honest with you, the recovery is key but we must move beyond the recovery and put in prevention. So I always move with OPRAL: Operation Prevent and Recover All Loots as well as anyone who takes public fund, we will go after the person, recover it and put it in the kit”.
