Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu

The Parliamentary Candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2020 general election in the Tamale South constituency has chastised the Member of Parliament for the area, Haruna Iddrisu for his alleged public utterances that until he (Haruna Iddrisu) decides not to contest the seat no one can defeat him in an election.

The alleged comments of the Tamale South lawmaker he said, undermine the supremacy of God who bestowed the political power to him Mr. Iddrisu to lead the people in the past 16 years.

Sympathisers of the MP particularly members of the opposition National Democratic Congress always refer to him as “Gangdu” to wit above all.

However, speaking in an interview with THE CUSTODIAN after submitting his nomination forms on Thursday to the electoral commission in Tamale, Mr. Yakubu Yussif appealed to the Tamale South electorates to vote for change in December.

He explained that the minority leader’s long stay in parliament has made him power drunk resulting in his nonperformance and therefore urged the people to vote against the four-term NDC legislator.

The NPP Member of Parliament hopeful also urged the Chiefs, Opinion Leaders and well-meaning people in the constituency to challenge the NDC lawmaker to account his stewardship when he visits their communities to campaign.

“If it is that people are going to vote base on good things and track records then I have won the 2020 elections because as a parliamentary candidate I have proven what I am capable to do when I am elected as MP compared to Lawyer Haruna Iddrisu in 2004 when he was seeking the mandate of the people”

Infrastructure feud

For several months now there is also an argument between the minority leader and members of the New Patriotic Party in the northern region over road infrastructure projects in the area.

Mr. Yakubu Yussif said these road projects particularly those in the Tamale South constituency were awarded to Mr. Iddrisu’s construction firm, Might Constructions as a profit making venture by the government of Ghana and implored the MP to be candid to admit that the projects are not his funded activities as speculated.

“He says he is using his personal funds to construct these projects but we are telling him it’s not true and we have always proved him wrong by providing details of the contracts, the contract sum and period of the contract award and all these are given to him under this NPP government. Why was he not constructing those projects under his own NDC government and under an NPP administration he claims to working, constructing those roads? he queried.

The NPP PC further accused Mr. Iddrisu and his construction company of doing shoddy work for his own constituents, citing the Datoyili to Fooshegu connecting to Gbelahi bila, Manguli and Manguli Kukuo. He added residents in these communities are suffering due to the uncompleted works on the road.
