Former Minister for Business Development, Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Awal has been nominated as the Minister-Designate for Tourism, Arts and Culture by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Thursday (21 January, 2021). The President presented lists of forty six (46) substantive Ministers to the Speaker of Parliament for vetting and subsequent approval. The number included the sixteen (16) Regional Ministers-Designate for the 16 regions of Ghana.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Ag Director of Communications at the Jubilee, Eugene Arhin.
President Nana Akufo-Addo in an earlier statement said some seven ministries, namely Aviation, Business Development, Inner City and Zongo Development, Monitoring and Evaluation, Planning, Regional Re-organisation and Development and Special Development Initiatives have been realigned.
He explained the decision for this realignment is because all these special-purpose ministries have achieved the purposes for which they were established.
Alhaji Awal Mohammed, hitherto, was the Managing Director for State owned Graphic Communications Group before he was appointed as Minister responsible for Business Development in 2017.
He performed creditable well among his peers in the first Akufo-Addo led administration which won him some coveted awards as a result in the government.
Background:
He attended Yendi Senior High School in the Northern Region of Ghana before proceeding to the Ghana Institute of Journalism in Accra.
He holds a Masters in Applied Business Research from the Swiss Business School, Switzerland, and an Executive Masters in Business Administration from the University of Ghana Business School, Legon.
He obtained a Masters in International Journalism from the University of Wales, United Kingdom. As of January 2017, he was pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration at the Swiss Business School.
He resigned from Graphic Communications Group in 2010 to take up the position of Managing Director of Chase Petroleum — a downstream oil marketing company.
In 2009, he was awarded the Marketing Man of the year for his contribution towards marketing in Ghana by the Charted Institute of Marketing Ghana. At the time of his appointment, Mohammed Awal was the CEO of Marble Communication Group Limited, a private publishing house in Ghana.
