Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

Contrary to the usual tradition of giving cash donations at funeral grounds among many Ghanaian ethnic groups, mourners were directed to pay their donations to a Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) account to support the final Islamic funeral rites of the late Hajia Mariama Bawumia, mother of Ghana’s Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

The digital transformation agenda is spearheaded by the Vice President to move the country from transacting business with so many documents to convenient paperless and cash free systems.

The Digital Ghana Agenda seeks to digitize government services, build a biometric National Identity register (Ghana Card), deploy a digital property addressing system, mobile money interoperability and institutionalize paperless port operations among others.

The Akufo-Addo administration introduced these programs and policies with the Vice President as leader of the Economic Management Team spearheading those initiatives.

And the passion with which this is being done has earned him the accolade, “The Digital Man”.

Meanwhile, the 40th day Islamic funeral rites have been performed in honor of the late Hajia Mariama Bawumia at Kperiga in the East Mamprusi municipality of the North East region today Sunday, October 24, 2021.

The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Osman Nuhu Sharabutu led the Bawumia family and hundreds of Ghanaians and sympathizers to observe a solemn recitation of the holy Quran to pray for the departed soul, the family and the peace and stability of Ghana.

The Children, family, the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo and the Overlord of Mamprugu all read various tributes to celebrate the life of the spouse of the late Mumuni Bawumia, Ghana’s one time Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
