The Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu has called on the Muslim Ummah and the entire region to embrace unity to ensure a peaceful elections as the nation gears up for the December 7 polls.
Addressing Muslims Congregants gathered at the Tamale Jubilee Park on Sunday (June 16, 2024) for this year’s Eidul-Adha celebration, Mr Shani admonished the citizenry to disengaged themselves with tendencies that could provoke conflict before,during and after the polls.
He emphasised Ghana’s electoral system is designed in a simple laid out process which allows every qualified individual to exercise his or her franchise without any hindrance.
The Minister however lamented the disturbances that engulfed the just ended limited voter registration exercise and the voter transfe. Accoding to him, the devastating impact of conflict is not lost on us as TV footages bring home to us destruction of lives and property, infrastructure and livelihood, resulting in untold hunger and sufferings to people who hitherto lived in peace and harmony.
“These occurrences elsewhere should serve as a great lesson to us, as Muslims and Ghanaians.”
“Let me take this opportunity to advise all such people to rethink their position as the Government under the able leadership of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo would be resolute in defending the Development in Freedom that we have all been accustomed to in the last eight years.”
The Minister further implored the Muslim community to pray for all Muslim brothers, sisters and children in conflict areas across the country as well as in Palestine and other Muslim-dominated countries across the world who are in distress due to war and hardship.
Meanwhile, the Regional Minister also expressed optimism about the forming cohesion in the region describing it as most peaceful in the Country.
“Northern region which have unfortunately been tagged as a conflict-prone region has for some time now been peaceful and I dare say that it is now the most people region in Ghana.”
