The National Treasurer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Charles Dwamena has stated that District Assembly elections are more important than Parliamentary elections as far as development at the local levels is concerned.
Addressing journalists on the sidelines of the Ashanti Regional Youth Conference of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which took place at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi on Saturday, Dr Dwamena indicated that given the great importance of the District level elections, it is very important for all well-meaning Ghanaians, particularly eligible voters, to focus on the election of good Assembly Members who can debate at the local assemblies and make strong cases for local development in their respective electoral areas.
Dr Dwamena, who was once Ghana’s Deputy Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, highlighted the positive role good assembly members can play at the various assemblies, saying “It is important for everyone to ensure that we pay close attention to the district assembly elections scheduled for December 19th because these assembly members will be the primary agents for development in our various electoral areas. They are also the same people who will be enacting by-laws for the various assemblies and these by-laws will be binding on all of us. The consequences of not actively participating in these electoral processes will be disastrous for all of us in the long run.”
Dr China, as the former Diplomat is often called, appealed to all eligible voters to go out in their numbers to vote for good assemble candidates and pay closer attention to the processes than they even do to that of the MPs.
Present at the Ashanti Regional Youth Conference were key personalities in the NPP including the Energy Minister and MP for Manhyia South, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh and the National Youth Organizer Salam Mustapha.
