Former Vice President and the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2028 general election, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on members of the party to unite after the October 4, 2026, national delegates conference for victory in the next presidential and parliamentary elections.
He said the election of the new national executives and the completion of the party’s internal elections marked the beginning of a new phase in the NPP’s efforts to rebuild its structures and regain political power.
Dr. Bawumia said the NPP has successfully completed a comprehensive restructuring process that started from the polling station level and progressed through the electoral area, constituency and regional structures before culminating in the election of the new national executives.
Addressing party members after the conference, the NPP flagbearer who is now the Leader of the Party, congratulated the newly elected executives and urged them to quickly unite the various factions and campaign teams that emerged during the internal elections.
He pointed out that the outcome of the internal elections should not create divisions among members, stressing that the party itself was the ultimate winner.
“Our party is a democratic party, and when you have elections, you will have competition. And for those who did not win, I must let you know that it is not about who won. It is the NPP who won this election. You did not lose. The NPP won,” Dr. Bawumia reiterated.
He called on all candidates who contested the national executive positions to put their differences aside and contribute to the party’s campaign to win the 2028 election.
“Tonight elections are over, all the camps will dissolve and let us have one NPP camp and rule and win 2028,” Dr Bawumia said.
He further stressed the importance of inclusiveness, using the Akan expression “Obiaa nsa ewomu” (everybody has a hand in it) to emphasise that every member had a role to play in rebuilding and strengthening the party.
According to him, the NPP could not afford to delay its preparations for the next general election.
“There is no time to waste,” he said, urging the newly elected executives to begin work immediately and engage the wider party membership on strategies for 2028.
Dr Bawumia maintained that unity would be critical to the NPP’s chances of returning to government.
“Winning 2028 is about unity. Unity in this party will give us victory. Let us come together to work,” he stated.
He and all the party executives, he indicated, will meet within the week to strategise for the task ahead.
Dr. Bawumia cautioned members against underestimating the task ahead, saying the party would have to work harder than it did during its successful 2016 campaign to regain power.
“It will not be an easy election. We will have to take power, and in taking power means we will have to work hard, hard and hard. We will work harder than we did in 2016,” he said.
Dr Bawumia therefore urged the new national executives and party members at all levels to immediately strengthen the NPP’s structures, develop effective campaign strategies and mobilise the grassroots ahead of the 2028 general election.
He congratulated the newly elected executives and called on the entire party to rally behind them as the NPP begins its campaign to return to power.
