Member of Parliament for Yendi constituency, Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama

Member of Parliament for Yendi constituency in the northern region, Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama, has received an Honorary Award for his spectacular human centered and community development policy interventions in the past few years.

At the 3rd edition of the coveted Northern Excellence Awards (NExA) night, efforts of the Yendi lawmaker were acknowledged by organizers of the awards.

Mr. Mahama for sometime now has initiated several programs to transform the livelihood of the underserved people in the northern region, and most especially farmers, women and children in the Yendi municipality.

The former Deputy Procurement Manager at Ghana Cocoa Board has also supported hundreds of smallholder farmers with farming tools and implements to boost agricultural activities in the Yendi municipality.

He has also provided free eye screening for residents of the constituency as part of his collaborations with development partners to improve healthcare in the area.

He previously supported the full rehabilitation of the Yendi government hospital, which hitherto was not efficient to offer some essential service to the public.

The Son of late Aliu Mahama, former Vice President of Ghana also launched the Farouk Aliu Mahama Educational Care Fund (FAMEC-Fund) to support brilliant but needy students in the constituency under his new Yendi project.

“On behalf of myself, my constituents, my family and team, I thank the organizers for the honour of this award. I am deeply humbled by the Award and I accept the challenge that it imposes on me to continue to lead exemplary leadership hinged on nothing else but development, compassion and people-first” an elated Farouk Aliu Mahama said.

“We are resilient people committed to building a confident Yendi which is united and at peace with ourselves.

This underpins my individual initiatives to tool our farmers, empower the youth and women, care about their health, and to support the needy schoolchild.

I thank the organisers, once again, for the award. It is good to be able to show that standing out for the ordinary people in our society has its rewards. May God bless us all and the peoples of Yendi and Ghana” he said further.

The Northern Excellence Awards (NExA) is an initiative by the Celebrities Charity Development Foundation to recognize and honor distinguished personalities and organizations that have immensely contributed to the development of Northern Ghana.

This year’s NExA awards night happened last Saturday, 27 March, 2021 in Tamale and was organised under strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols.
