Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama, Member of Parliament for Yendi

President Nana Akufo-Addo has announced the Member of Parliament for Yendi, Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama, as the new Board Chairman for the Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel Development Corporation (GIISDEC).

The position became vacant following the untimely demise of the Board Chairman, Prince Imoro Andani in November last year.

“I want you to know that the relationship that we have begun is going to grow stronger and stronger” Nana Akufo-Addo assured the Overlord of Dagbon, Ya Naa Abukari II when he called on him at the Gbewa palace in Yendi on Friday as part of his two-day working tour of the northern region.

The Yendi first term lawmaker received rousing commendations from the Dagbon King for his human-centered initiatives and interventions to alleviate the impoverishment of his constituents and the construction of mechanized boreholes doted across the Yendi constituency.

Reacting to that, President Akufo-Addo stated that, “For myself I am not surprised. I worked closely with his father who departed too soon, the Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama and I know the love that he had for Yendi, for Dagbon and the North and for Ghana as a whole and that has been transmitted into the work of his son.”

The Akufo-Addo administration established the Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel Development Corporation (GIISDEC) through an Act of Parliament in March 2019 (Act 988) to develop and promote an Integrated Iron and Steel Industry.

“The Chairman that I appointed unfortunately was called away to the Almighty and that is your own son, Prince Imoro Andani; Farouk Aliu Mahama is going to succeed him as the new Board Chairman” he announced.
