Madam Felicia Tetteh, NPP candidate for Sagnarigu constituency

The parliamentary candidate for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Sagnarigu constituency for the just ended 2020 general election, Madam Felicia Tetteh has announced her intention to stage a strong comeback in the next general election.

She promised to unseat the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for the area, Alhaji Alhassan Bashir Alhassan Fuseini aka ABA Fuseini.

Madam Felicia after last Monday’s polls has received plaudits from members across the two leading political divide for her stunning performance in the Sagnarigu parliamentary election where she was considered an underdog to the two-term NDC lawmaker.

“The Precious Stone” as she is affectionately referred to by many supporters of the NPP obtained 26,434, representing 43.04 percent of the total valid votes cast in the December 7, 2020 polls against 34,989 votes of the incumbent NDC MP.

She also significantly increased votes for the President-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The 2020 result is a significant improvement from the 2016 parliamentary results where the NPP Habib Iddrisu had 5,888 votes against the NDC ABA Fuseini 26, 898 votes.

Madam Tetteh in an interview with THE CUSTODIAN thanked the chiefs, opinion leaders, youth groups and women groups in the Sagnarigu constituency for the confidence they have reposed in her.

“Definitely, with the hard work that we have put in, we will not leave unattended and I am coming back hard and I will make sure that I keep the youth, the women because I have been telling them we are in together”, she stated.

The NPP aspirant believes the Sagnarigu community has been deprived of development for far too long, adding, “I am so very happy that recent revelations have shown the people are on the path of change.”

Madam Felicia Tetteh posited that the dynamics in the 2020 elections mean Sagnarigu is now a level playing field for both NPP and NDC to win in subsequent elections, emphasising the best player will win the 2024 polls.

“I am very happy; I haven’t won but I have made a very huge difference in the politics of Sagnarigu” she added.

She however gave advice to the NPP Regional Executives and most party supporters not to discriminate when it comes to who can win parliamentary seats in the northern region.

She stated a lot of surprises pan out in elections, stressing that, “Maybe places that you think you can win, it’s never possible and I believe that if I had the massive support and cooperation in this region, Sagnarigu would have fallen flat for the NPP.”

Meanwhile, the Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Sa-eed has commended the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for her spectacular performance and contribution made to the victory of the President elect, Nana Akufo-Addo.

Mr. Sa-eed noted the presidential and parliamentary votes tally in the Sagnarigu constituency is critical because some candidates did not get such votes but are going into parliament as MPs.

The Minister implored gender activists in the country to congratulate Madam Felicia Tetteh for her boldness and perseverance, which has paid off in the elections.

“What is happening is that Hon Felicia Tetteh is a new phenomenon in the politics of northern Ghana giving the fact that she was the only female candidate in the elections in the Northern region and that is where I am calling on the gender activists to thank and praise this young lady who has applied herself to win and bring meaning to the gender balance that the UN and other development partners are advocating for” he noted.
