The Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) has confirmed the arrest of Mahama Aminat, also known as Akosua Serwaa Minat for allegedly issuing threats and offensive comments directed at President John Dramani Mahama in videos circulated on social media.
In a Facebook post today Thursday, May 21, 2026, the Police disclosed that the suspect was captured in multiple videos that have since gone viral allegedly making derogatory remarks about the President.
She is alleged to have issued threats directed at the President’s life and his spouse, inciting others to harm both the President and his wife.
Meanwhile, the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) have already petitioned the diplomatic community in Ghana over what it describes as growing political persecution, suppression of dissent, and the erosion of democratic freedoms under the administration of President John Mahama.
The petition, jointly signed by NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong and Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, warned that Ghana’s democratic reputation was under threat.
The petitioners accused the government of weaponising state institutions against political opponents, journalists, activists, and social media commentators critical of the administration.
