The Gushegu Nursing and Midwifery College has been gutted by fire early Monday morning, August 17, 2026.
Personnel of Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) from the Yendi fire station were dispatched immediately to the scene at 0728 hours to combat the situation and they arrived at 0812 hours.
The GNFS in a statement said that the team travelled approximately 61 kilometres to contain the fire outbreak which is seen as long time in firefighting.
The Custodian has gathered that the fire affected the school’s ICT laboratory and an adjoining classroom.
However, the personnel managed to successfully contain the fire at 0852 hours within the affected laboratory.
The fire was finally extinguished at 0913 hours, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the institution and saving the school’s infrastructure from complete destruction.
Meanwhile, the fire service have launched formal investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the outbreak and ascertain its root cause.
