The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a strong warning to Ghanaians and the general public to disregard a viral fake notice claiming that the Cambodian government has ordered African nationals, including Ghanaians, to leave the country by May 31, 2026, or face arrest and penalties.
In an official press release issued today, the Ministry confirmed that the circulating document is entirely fabricated. Following direct diplomatic engagements with Cambodian authorities, the Ministry received confirmation that no such notice was ever issued by any Cambodian state institution.
The General Department of Immigration of Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior also issued a separate clarification describing the notice as “completely untrue.”
The fake notice had claimed that citizens of Ghana, Kenya, Cameroon, Uganda, and other African countries were being targeted for alleged immigration violations, causing widespread anxiety among Ghanaian communities in Cambodia and back home.
While dismissing the fake document, the Ministry acknowledged that some Ghanaian nationals in Cambodia had already expressed interest in voluntary repatriation even before the fake notice emerged.
According to the statement, 85 Ghanaian nationals have already been successfully evacuated between March and May 2026 through coordination between Ghana’s High Commission in Malaysia (which is also accredited to Cambodia) and relevant stakeholders. Arrangements are currently underway to facilitate the return of an additional 76 Ghanaians who wish to come home.
The Ministry commended the Cambodian government for its cooperation and reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to protecting its citizens abroad.
“The Government of Ghana urges the public to rely solely on official sources for information on matters concerning Ghanaian nationals,” the statement concluded.
Advice to the Public
