The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has praised the Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Mr Sammy Gyamfi, for what he described as impactful operations that have helped save Ghana millions of dollars within the gold sector.
He commended Mr. Gyamfi when the GoldBod CEO and the Special Aide to the Ga Mantse, Robert Coleman who is also the CEO of Wembley Sports Complex paid a courtesy call on the Ga King to brief him on the activities and operations of GoldBod and the institution’s role in regulating and maximizing revenue from Ghana’s gold resources.
During the engagement, Mr. Gyamfi explained the mandate of GoldBod and outlined measures being implemented to streamline operations within the gold industry, strengthen regulation, and ensure that the country derives maximum value from its mineral wealth.
The Ga Mantse praised the efforts of Mr. Gyamfi and the management of GoldBod, stating that the institution’s operations were contributing significantly to protecting the country’s resources and preventing losses in the sector.
“Your operations have saved Ghana millions of dollars,” the traditional ruler noted, while encouraging the institution to remain focused on promoting accountability, transparency, and responsible mining practices.
The Ga Mantse also used the occasion to raise concerns about the destructive impact of illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, on lands and water bodies across the country.
He urged GoldBod and relevant authorities to intensify efforts to reclaim lands destroyed by illegal miners and ensure that such lands are restored for productive community use.
According to him, reclaimed lands should be converted into football fields, astroturf pitches, parks, and other recreational facilities that would benefit communities, especially the youth.
He emphasized that reclaiming and repurposing degraded lands would not only restore the environment but also create opportunities for sports and other meaningful social activities.
The meeting underscored the importance of collaboration between traditional authorities and state institutions in the fight against illegal mining and the promotion of sustainable management of Ghana’s natural resources.
